We have our systems quite streamlined, and so it usually takes us 3-4 weeks to build a typical website, from the time we commence work on the project.

This commencement date is a scheduled date that we mutually agree on, and is the date by which you need to have provided us with all of your website content before we can get started.

There is generally 2-3 weeks involved in the enquiry, proposal and preparation process, depending on our booking schedule and how much time you require to prepare your material.

When required, prompt responses from you will help to ensure that the project stays on track and doesn’t incur delays.

We use the WordPress platform to build our websites, which means you can log into your site from any browser on any computer, and edit your text content and images, add a news item, and more.

You will edit the website on the front end of the site, meaning you can easily see the changes you make in real time – you don’t need to switch from the Dashboard to the live site and refresh pages to see what your changes look like.

If you are comfortable making your way around a computer and internet browser, and have moderate skills in programs like Word and email,  we think you will be able to update your site with ease.

As part of completing your site, we will provide you with an online step-by-step tutorial (complete with written instruction and screenshots) that demonstrates how to carry out basic editing tasks, as well as how to complete any editing tasks that are specific to your website.

During the earlier years we did provide graphic design services, however in recent times we have needed to structure the business to specialise in our niche service – designing and developing professional websites for rural and regional businesses.

There’s a lot we need to keep up with to ensure we continue to do this as well as possible, so due to limitations on time and resources, graphic design is not something we currently offer.

However, this need not hold up the process of getting started with your website. We are happy to connect you with a designer who could be suited to your needs, and we can factor in this time for your logo and branding to be completed before we commence your website.

If what you require first and foremost is a website, with the added ability to sell a few products or digital downloads, or take payment for transactions (such as online nominations submitted via a form on your website), we can definitely help you. We love using online payment gateways Paypal or Stripe for this purpose.

However, we do not build fully fledged online stores or e-commerce solutions, as quite often there are turnkey solutions out there that are more economical and easy for the shop owner to get set up with. Quite often the cost involved in paying a web developer for the many hours involved to build and set up an online store is not aligned with the preferred budget of a boutique or handmade business. If this sounds like you, Shopify could be a possible solution for you.

WordPress is open source content management software and currently powers around 30% of websites on the internet. Furthermore, of all websites that use a content management system (allowing the owner to edit the site), WordPress sites account for 60% of these sites, which is around 19.5 million websites.

The WordPress project is contributed to by tens of thousands of developers all over the world and is growing from strength to strength. WordPress allows us to develop flexible and customizable websites to modern standards and observes web development best practices. Furthermore, the community of web developers that use WordPress reaches far and wide and allows us to tap in to this collective intelligence and bring that wealth of experience to your project.

We work exclusively with WordPress.

Because each platform is different, we do not work with other platforms, and can’t help you with sites already built on other platforms.

There’s a lot we need to know working with WordPress alone, so due to limitations on time, resources and expertise, working with other platforms is not something we currently offer.

Your website ideally needs to be hosted by a hosting company that specialises in WordPress hosting. There are many companies that do this, and we have a preferred provider through which we manage our clients’ sites.

Some clients may wish to use their own hosting – we will advise if the type of hosting will be adequate for the website. Here are the minimum requirements for running WordPress.

Once your website is launched, we will provide 14 days of support to make sure any bugs have been ironed out and that you are confident using your new website. After this you will need to subscribe to one of our ongoing website care plans to make sure your website is looked after and maintained. These website care plans include updating your software, regular backups, security checks and making sure your website is online and open for business 24/7/365.

Provided you subscribe to one of our ongoing website care plans, we will be your first point of call should something go wrong with your website. We will determine whether it is something the hosting company needs to fix or something that is covered by your website care plan.

We will install Google Analytics software on your new website and set up automated monthly reports. On these reports you can see a wide range of statistics about your website including number of visits, page views and the amount of time people are spending on your website. If you have a Gmail or G-Suite account, we can provide direct access to this Analytics account.

The time it takes for your website to appear on page one of Google depends on a number of factors. It depends on the search phrase people are using to find your website and the number of other websites that are also available for those search phrases. Nobody can truly say how long it will take for your website to appear at the top of search engine results pages (including people who actually work for Google), however there are a number of factors that can improve your chances.

We implement basic SEO practices on your site to improve your chances of ranking well on Google, and building your website on WordPress is a great start as WordPress has some great search engine optimisation fundamentals built-in.

Creating unique and interesting content on a regular basis for your website is also critical to increase your visibility amongst search engines. Launching your website and then forgetting about it is a surefire way to get lost amongst the noise.

When you first launch your website it’s important to encourage as much direct traffic as you can to the site (eg. sharing the link on email and social media), to help Google register that there are a number of people visiting your site, which will help validate that it’s a worthwhile site to show in its search results – even for a search term as simple as your business name.

Whilst we like to be flexible and responsive to your needs, we also like to deliver what we promise within the time frames and budgets we have allowed. If you ask us to add new features to your website while we are building it, we will most likely ask “why?”

If we all agree that your new request will help us achieve our objectives then we will be happy to advise of any additional investment required.

If your new feature is something you would like to add to your website but is not directly tied to your original objectives then we will suggest to schedule it for a second iteration of the website once it has been launched. This will require a new proposal.

There is an old saying along the lines of, “Fast, good or cheap. Pick two.”

We are not the cheapest option for creating a website, but we are also by no means the most expensive provider out there.

All of our websites are custom designed, and developed with quality and results in mind.

We like to provide value and return on investment to our clients, and this also means including a range of services and systems that are behind the scenes – such as Google Analytics, search engine optimisation, and taking the time on the finer details to ensure we produce websites with longevity and great performance.

One of our values is to make life easy for our clients, and to save them the frustration and disappointment that can come with DIY website solutions (and “free” is never free – you almost always have to pay for add-ons that will actually add usefulness to your site).

If you try to hire a low cost freelancer online, there can be communication breakdowns and language barriers, unreliability, and a general lack of alignment around the process, goals and design expectations.
